Grey-headed Woodpecker	Asian Barred Owlet
This species is fairly common in the Dehradun area. This female was photographed early in the morning near Bikram's house in very poor light. See male here.	Barred Owlets replace the Spotted Owlet as the common owlet species in the Himalayas and north-east India. Bikram's farm has a resident breeding pair. This one is out sunning.
Blue Whistling Thrush	Chestnut-bellied Rock Thrush
Perhaps, the most conspicuous of our hill birds, this large Myophonus thrush is very evident near water from Kashmir to Arunachal. Common and tame in the Dehradun area.	A Himalayan Monticola thrush, this species is often found sitting on high wires. This is the male, the female which resembles a Zoothera thrush is pictured below.
Brown-fronted Woodpecker	Chestnut-bellied Rock Thrush
A north-western species, this near endemic Dendrocopos woodpecker replaces the similar Yellow-crowned Woodpecker at higher altitudes. Mussoorie area.	Common in many parts of the Dehradun area, this species (like the Blue Whistling Thrush) is often found close to human habitation. This one is sitting on a light cover.
