A rather shy endemic Himalyan parakeet ranging from Kashmir to West Bengal, the Slaty-headed is common in the Dehradun area. This is a juvenile. |
Turdus boulboul is a widespread Himalayan species which winters right down to the plains. The males pictured above were part of a feeding flock of ten. Mussoorie area. |

No stream or river in the Himalayas is left unattended by the two Water Redstart species pictured on this page. The Plumbeous is smaller and more energetic. This is the male. |
Can often be found some distance away from large streams but always near flowing water. Both the Redstarts were photographed on the Tons River, Dehradun. |

A high-altitude (above treeline) summering species known for their spectacular flocking flights, they are rarely met in the Dehradun area. Good Dhanaulti record. |
Easily spotted at elevations over 1500m in the Dehradun area, the Pink-browed is a near endemic found in the western Himalayas. Male, Dhanaulti. |

| Orange-flanked Bush Robin | Crimson Sunbird |

It is never easy to spot a bush robin but the Orange-flanked is perhaps the easiest of the Tarsiger's to be observed in the higher parts of the Dehradun area. This male is from Dhanaulti. |
The Crimson Sunbird brings energy and colour to every garden in the Dun valley. While other species of sunbird are found in the area, the Crimson clearly dominates. Pictured male. |
