Image details
Nikon D2X, Nikon F 2.8 400mm
Location: Pang, Ladakh
Date: June 2007

Shoot details
This image is a good example of using the car as a hide. The bird was flushed on the road at 4,400 meters and went behind the rocks. A short wait in the car saw the bird emerging from behind the boulder to give me this image.

Species details
The partridge-like Himalayan Snowcock is large and bulky at 68-72cms. Found in the rocky slopes and alpine meadows of the high Himalaya this species is much persecuted for the table and hence very shy. Sexes alike.
