Shoot details
In the
heightened frenzy of shooting tigers in Ranthambore, I took a breather
to rest my hands and found this small puddle next to the trail
attracting a variety of bathers including this starling. My naturalist
and co-passengers were shocked that I was neglecting the big cats just a
few feet away!
Species details
This cocky
starling is endemic to the subcontinent and is usually noticed in pairs.
Fairly widespread across the country, the eastern limit is near the
Ganges at West Bengal. The species is adapted to do well in a variety of
habitats and seems to prefer dry and well wooded areas. Sexes are alike
and the bird measures 22cms.
