Shoot details
An endemic of
the western ghats. This gave us a tough time where I had a wait for more
than an hour to get a decent photo. I then saw it on this open perch
from far and before I could approach it disappeared. I cursed myself for
not taking a record shot from far. I waited in front of the perch and it
suddenly flew in to pose for me. It was on this perch in open with a
great background for a long time and I could take all kind of
photographs. This was just after the rains and the saturation of colours
was awesome.
Species details
This is a small
15cm bird endemic to the montane evergreen forests of South-west
India. Recent re-evaluation by Rasmussen & Anderton (2005) has
placed the bird in Myiomela as a full species - White-bellied Blue Robin
Myiomela albiventris. The species is considered vulnerable due to habitat
loss.
