Shoot details
This photograph
was shot when I was scouting the dry Koontangulam IBA lake bed in
Southern Tamilnadu.
Species details
This brightly
coloured species is the most widespread and common woodpecker in the
country. Equally at home in forests and city gardens, this species has a
loud ringing call. The 29cm female is shown here. In the male the red
extends to the forecrown.
